May/June Wellness Star

6/8/2020 8:37 am

We made it through the end of the school year and into summer break, through ALL of the changes, challenges and times of adjusting to a new normal. For that, I commend you all for your patience, persistence, flexibility, devotion to your children and understanding. Give yourselves credit for a job well done!

For the teachers and staff that guided us along the way, we cannot thank you enough for your personalized commitment to your students. As difficult as that can be doing through a screen, the ability to show your students how devoted you were to them was noticed and appreciated. We truly hope we can personally see you soon to thank you for everything you have all done.

For all the students and staff that are moving on from Chanhassen Elementary, we wish you the best with what lies ahead. We will miss your guidance, creativity, kindness, and presence in our school. You have all helped shape the school and the students in your own way and know we will carry on what we have learned from all of you. Thank you!

This final Wellness Star will be brief as there is so much to process these days. Thank you for taking the time to read and for taking the time to care for yourself and those around you. Be well.

Be a Chan Star!

With all that is going on these days there are so many feelings of uncertainty about what the future holds. Our feelings may change momentarily or we may not know exactly what to feel or think with all that is happening.

We look back on the days together with our classmates, our teachers, our school staff and remember what we learned about Star Pride. We can show that Star Pride during times like these and in our own way each and every day, even if we are uncertain about these days.

I AM KIND

Show kindness to yourself, to others, to those who need it most, to your community, to your environment, to your world.

I AM RESPONSIBLE

Be that person who chooses to be an example, who leads in ways that shows respect for others and who continues to grow as a respectable individual.

I AM SAFE

Do what you need to do to create a safe environment, a safe home, a safe connection with others, and reach out to others to make them feel safe.

Take Star Pride with you as we move on to summer break or move on from the school. Show it to others in your own way. Make it known that it is a great day to be a Chan Star!

Helping Our Kids Mange Disappointment Over Cancelled Summer Plans

With summer here, we find ourselves moving to Plan B, C, D, or beyond as plans have changed, trips and camps have been cancelled and we don’t know what lies ahead. Please take a moment to watch this video that may help us with the feelings and reactions that may come along with those changes.

Green Thumb News

Thank You to Jessica Annis!

First of all, I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Jessica Annis for all of her hard work with the school garden! We are so fortunate to have a dedicated parent and Master Gardener with us for so many years to help shape the garden into the beautiful learning space it is now and for what it can be in the future. Jessica has put in countless hours in the garden and has created plans for what can be done in the seasons ahead. We will miss her greatly as she moves on from Chanhassen Elementary, but we are lucky to be able to see her occasionally in the future. Thank you, Jessica!

We Need Garden Volunteers!

Next, CALLING ANYONE WHO CAN HELP! It takes many hands to maintain the garden throughout the summer and fall seasons. A Sign Up is being created to help with the watering and weeding tasks this summer so please keep an eye out for it on the Chanhassen Elementary PTO Facebook page. No prior garden experience needed! All ages welcome and we would appreciate helping hands in the months ahead.

A Message of Hope from Mrs. Anderson

Mrs. Anderson recorded this video for the end of the school year, but it addresses so much more. Take the time to watch this short video for her lovely words of hope and what we can all do to help make the world a better place.

Thank you for taking the time to read the last Wellness Star of the school year! We hope it has been a time for you to learn, to take a break and that it has been welcoming with all the news and other information coming at us these days.

I need to thank Lindsey Gunstad who brings the Wellness Star to life! We could not do this without her help, knowledge and creativity. THANK YOU!

Remember, be kind during this time and always. Give yourself credit for doing your best. Thank those around you who are working hard and keeping us safe. Make the most of this time together. Take care of yourself and your family. Be well (as best as you can).

We wish you all the best as we take each day at a time. Stay well and do what you can to make each day one to learn, grow, and experience ways of compassion, positivity and wellness.

Sincerely ~ Erin Reisdorf and the Chanhassen Elementary PTO Wellness Committee (wellnesschanhassenpto@gmail.com)
